About Juan Mario Hernandez
The battle wounds are real.
For 25 years Juan Mario has been the painter other companies send in when the work has to be right: black enamel storefronts in shopping malls, two-story school atriums, church sanctuaries, warehouse ceilings sprayed from a lift, and new homes all over the Charlotte area.
He's breathed the overspray, worn the paint home, and learned every way a paint job can fail. Four Coats is where all of that goes to work for you directly. No salesman, no crew you've never met. He prices the job, he's on the job, and he signs off on it.

Straight answers
Questions people ask before they call.
Don't see yours? Text it. You'll get an answer from Juan Mario himself.
How close is the online estimate to the real price?
It's built from 2026 Charlotte-area rates for the same scope, so most written quotes land inside the range. The walkthrough catches what a form can't, like soft wood, water stains or a two-story stairwell. If something changes the number, you'll see exactly why on the quote.
How soon can you start?
Walkthroughs are usually within a few days of your request. Your start date is written on the quote. Spring and fall exterior dates fill first, so book those early. Interior work runs all year, and winter is the easiest time to get the dates you want.
Do I need to be home?
Only for the first and last walkthroughs. Plenty of clients leave a key or door code and get a progress text each afternoon.
Do I have to move furniture?
No. We move and cover furniture and put it back. We just ask you to take down pictures and put away small breakables before day one.
What paint do you use? Can you help pick colors?
Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, at the level you choose. The exact product and color for every room is written on your quote. Color help is free, and we'll put sample swatches on your walls so you see them in your own light.
How does payment work?
No big deposits. On most homes, you pay when the job is done and you've signed off. On larger projects, materials are paid at the start and the balance after the final walkthrough.
What if something isn't right later?
Every job comes with a written two-year workmanship warranty. If paint peels or blisters because of our work, we come back and fix it.
Are you insured? Do painters need a license in NC?
Four Coats carries general liability insurance, and we'll send the certificate before work starts. North Carolina doesn't license painters for jobs under $40,000; larger commercial projects go through a licensed general contractor.
Is your home built before 1978? Tell us. Federal rules require lead-safe work practices on older homes, and we'll explain what that means for your project.
What about weather for exterior work?
Paint needs dry surfaces and the right temperature, usually above 50°F (35°F with low-temperature paints). Charlotte's best months are April–June and September–November. In July and August we start early to beat the heat and humidity. If rain moves a day, you hear it from us that morning.
